  • Samsung Economic Research Institute's Privacy Policy

    • Samsung Economic Research Institute (hereafter "SERI") is committed to user privacy. Members' personal information supplied for the purpose of receiving services is handled in accordance with SERI's privacy policy. SERI uses its members' personal information solely for the purpose of providing better services, and does not disclose the information to third parties without members' explicit consent. SERI strives to protect its members' personal information from unauthorized use.
    • Members can view this privacy policy at any time. SERI's privacy policy may be modified in the future, if required by the government or law, or in order to improve the quality of services.

  • Collection and use

    • SERI collects personal information from its members for the purpose of providing the best possible services through its website.
    • SERI provides helpful information to its members based on their personal information. SERI requests members' personal information in order to provide them with answers to their questions.
    • SERI strives to manage and update its members' personal information accurately.
  • Personal information collected and methods of collection

    • SERI collects only the minimum personal information needed for establishing and executing the agreement for provision of services using appropriate and fair methods. Before collecting personal information, SERI always obtains consent from members.
    • SERI surveys members' preferences using patterns from our homepage server log file or polls to better understand members and provide them with higher-quality services. The results of our surveys do not include customer identifiable information. SERI also retains the rights to share data collected through surveys with advertisers and affiliates with members' consent.
    • SERI requires the following personal information from its members:
      • Email (ID), password, first name, and last name
      • Company, job title, industry, and consent to receive e-mail notifications
    • SERI does not request information that can infringe on members' basic human rights. Exceptions include cases where users agree to provide such information voluntarily, or when required to do so by law.
  • Supply and sharing of personal information

    • SERI does not provide members' personal information to third parties without members' consent for purposes other than specified in this policy.
    • SERI marks certain items that require members' consent, and members have the right to refuse or withdraw their consent to provide that information. Those items include:
      • Personal information of a person in charge of privacy protection (department, name, and telephone number)
      • Purpose of collection and use of personal information
      • Requested items of personal information
      • Period of possession and use of requested information
      • Items related to the supply of personal information to third parties
      • Members' right to withdraw consent and receive notifications about viewing and correcting their personal information
      • Other items stipulated by related laws
      • Gender of the member
    • Access to members' personal information is limited to persons in charge of related operations (e.g., privacy protection managers).
    • However, SERI retains the right to provide members' personal information to third parties without members' consent in the following events:
      • If required to do so by the Real-Name Financial Transactions Act, the Password Protection Act, the Credit Information Use and Protection Act, the Telecommunications Basic Act, the Telecommunications Business Act, local tax laws, the Consumer Protection Act, the Bank of Korea Act, or the Code of Legal Procedure
      • If required to do so for the compilation of statistical data, academic papers or market surveys where no customer identifiable information is used
      • If basic personal information (name, email address, etc.) is required for the establishment of an agreement for provision of services to members by SERI's partner companies
    • Third parties can use information provided voluntarily by members online; members themselves shall be responsible for such information.
  • Members' rights with regard to personal information

    • SERI respects the rights of members with regard to their personal information.
    • Members can request details on the viewing and correction of their personal information through their visits to SERI's website, electronic signatures or membership IDs, or withdraw already-provided consent. SERI will take prompt measures after confirming member authorization.
    • If a member requests the correction of errors in personal information, SERI will not use that information until the specified errors are corrected, and will notify members about corrections immediately.
    • If members wish to view or correct their personal information, they can do so at anytime by logging in using their ID and password and following the instructions on the Personal Information Management Menu of our Customer Center.
  • Possession of personal information

    • Information provided by members is used from the date of subscription until the date of discontinuation of membership. Personal information is destroyed upon cancellation of subscription or termination of membership.
    • If a member withdraws his/her membership, personal information is maintained by SERI for a certain period of time for the settlement of any outstanding fees, litigation, or disputes. In these cases, viewing or use of personal information shall be limited only to the above-stated purposes.
  • Privacy protection techniques

    • SERI is committed to employing the best available technologies for the protection of members' personal information.
    • SERI endeavors to protect its users' personal information from loss, theft, leaks, modification and damage using password security devices, anti-virus programs, encryption algorithms, intervention interception systems, and other safeguards.
    • SERI limits the number of staff who can access members' personal information to the minimum, and provides training for its employees with regard to privacy protection. SERI also regularly changes the password of personal information managers who have access to members' information, and pursues all good faith efforts to prevent infringement of privacy.
  • Cookies

    • SERI uses cookies to allow our members to use our website more conveniently.
    • A cookie is a small amount of data transmitted by the website server to the user's computer. The transmitted data contains information on the visited website and the user's personal information. Although cookies can detect the user's computer browser, they cannot distinguish individual users, and users can accept all cookies by using browser options, request notification before installing a cookie, or refuse to install all cookies
    • Any personal information collected through user visits to SERI's website shall not be disclosed elsewhere unless required under the law.
  • Complaints

    • SERI quickly deals with users' complaints with respect to privacy and provides its best efforts to protect its members' information.
    • Members can contact SERI's privacy protection managers at any time if they believe SERI has not protected members' personal information. SERI will confirm any problems immediately and make corrections as soon as possible.

  • Effective date and policy updates

    • SERI's privacy policy has been effective since July 1, 1997.
    • This privacy policy may be modified in accordance with changes in the law or the government's instructions, or in order to provide better services to members. SERI will notify members of any changes in its privacy policy. It may take seven or more days to notify members about changes in the privacy policy.
