Abstract

I. Purpose and methodology of analysis

This study intends to understand the international status of Korea in the field of overseas construction and analyze the competitive level of domestic companies. Domestic construction companies’ construction activities in foreign countries are rapidly recovering after they suffered a sharp decline of -70% from the previous year due to the currency crisis.

The method of analysis is to classify international status by nation and competitiveness by firm, measured against the performance of 225 companies selected by the ENR (Engineering News Record) from 1995 to 1998. First, to examine the international status of Korea in the field of construction, the United States, Japan, and France, the top three countries in orders received for overseas construction based on sales amount, were compared against Korea.
