The era of the hyper-fast Internet is here. New broadband technology embedded in optical local area networks offers a speed of 100 megabits per second, or Mbps. Optical cables are being installed in local telephone switching stations or communications centers within large-scale apartment complexes. From these points, the new LANs are connected to individual homes. Optical LANs redefine Internet user experience with speed of two to 20 times faster than the existing technologies such as ADSL and VDSL.
