Foreign investors turned to a net buying position of Korean stocks in just one month due mainly to hints at a possible continuation of quantitative easing by the chairman of the US Federal Reserve. Meanwhile, they continued their net buying of Korean bonds for six straight months based on Korea's solid economic fundamentals and high interest rates on domestic bonds. The Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) said, in net terms, foreign investors bought 1.3 trillion won of Korean stocks and invested 1.7 trillion won in Korean bonds in July. Accordingly, July's foreign investment in Korean securities recorded a net inflow of 3 trillion won. As of the end of July, foreign investors held a total of 386 trillion won in Korean stocks, which is 30.6% of total market capitalization. In addition, their holdings of Korean bonds came in at 102.9 trillion won (7.5% of market capitalization) at end-July, hitting a record high.
