In August, the consumer sentiment index (CSI) remained unchanged for the third consecutive month at 105, said the Bank of Korea (BOK). The CSI rose to 105 in June, the highest since May last year (106). A CSI reading over 100 indicates optimists over the nation’s economy outnumber the pessimists. Specifically, the CSI for current and future living standards fell 2 points and 1 point month-on-month to 91 and 98, respectively. The index for current economic conditions slid 1 point to 81, and that for economic outlook marked 93, down 2 points from the previous month. During the same period, the CSI outlook for consumer prices gained 5 points to 138 while that for housing prices declined 1 point to 102. In addition, the expected inflation for the following 12 months came in at 3%, up 0.1 percentage point from July.
