Upon higher expectations for a domestic economic recovery, the Consumer Sentiment Index (CSI) rose to a 17-month high. According to the Bank of Korea (BOK), the CSI in October rose 4 points from a month ago to log 106, the highest since the same figure was tallied in May last year. The index fell to 102 in September due to the Chuseok holiday (Korean Thanksgiving) after recording a12-month high of 105 for three preceding months. A reading above 100 indicates that consumers who are optimistic about domestic economic conditions outnumber pessimists.
